Liverpool weather is classified as temperate, with a tendency to change rapidly and without warning at any given time of the year. Liverpool weather is influenced by its alluring sea front surroundings, as the city is positioned beside the River Mersey, located close to Liverpool Bay and in close proximity to the Irish Sea on the northwestern coast of England.
Liverpool weather has similar characteristics to those usually associated with the largest part of the United Kingdom, with highly impulsive conditions and a combination of sunny, breezy, wet overcast days. Due to its location however, Liverpool is sheltered and the weather is milder than other Northern England regions.
Summer
Liverpool weather during the summer months is characterized by an abundance of warm, sunny days. Summer sets over Liverpool with the arrival of May running right through to September, when it finally hands over the reign to autumn. Temperatures vary between daily highs of 13°C to 20°C for the entire season; during the months of July and August temperatures reach their peak, but rarely exceed 21°C. Abundant amounts of sunshine are present but at the same time Liverpool weather can interchange from foggy mornings to heavy showers and then again to sunny afternoons. Summer is the most preferable time to visit Liverpool even though both springs an autumn are filled with warm pleasant sunny days.
Winter
Weather in Liverpool during winter is set apart by it cold, wet frosty days and yet sunshine is often around for most of the season. Winter begins in November and continues right through to February. It is the coldest time of the year, with daily average temperature highs dropping between 4°C to 6°C and lows falling to freezing, snow making an occasional appearance during January. Annual precipitation is around 775mm.
